Environment Connecticut calls on Governor Rell to sign legislation protecting children from exposure to toxic lawn care pesticides
Hartford – On Monday, the House of Representatives passed a bill phasing out the use of toxic lawn care pesticides at elementary and middle schools in Connecticut. The measure phases out use of toxic lawn care pesticides at schools by July 1, 2009.
“This legislation will protect our kids by reducing their exposure to potentially cancer-causing toxic chemicals,” said Environment Connecticut Program Director, Christopher Phelps.
Toxic lawn care pesticides are linked to health impacts including cancer, birth defects, and learning disabilities. Unnecessary use of pesticides at schools increases children’s exposure and risk of adverse health effects.
