Protecting Connecticut's Waters

What's New

Clean Water Victory!

In October of 2007, Governor Rell signed a bond bill into law that restores $90 million to the Clean Water Fund this year and next.

Connecticut’s Clean Water Fund is a vital part of the state’s commitment to cleaning up our rivers, streams and Long Island Sound. Unfortunately, both the governor and Legislature have cut clean water funding in the past few years.

In 2006 and 2007, Environment Connecticut worked with activists and municipal leaders to urge the Legislature and Gov. Rell to restore the Clean Water Fund in order to finish the job of cleaning up and protecting our waterways.

How You Can Help

Thank your legislators to thank them restoring funding for the Clean Water Fund – protecting Connecticut’s rivers, streams, and Long Island Sound.

Brief Summary

Connecticut’s communities are wonderful places to live and raise a family, and our state’s waterways are a big part of the quality of life we enjoy. Whether it’s boating on Long Island Sound, fishing in the Housatonic River, or the incredible scenery of the Connecticut River valley, our state’s waterways are an important part of our lives.

Citizens, community leaders and elected officials have worked together for over two decades to clean up Connecticut’s waterways and protect them for future generations. Our rivers are cleaner and Long Island Sound is recovering due to these efforts. But today our shores, lakes, rivers and streams are at risk. Lack of funding for clean water projects threatens the recovery of some waterways and subjects others to further pollution. That’s why Environment Connecticut is working to ensure that our state Legislature invests in pristine waterways for Connecticut residents.
