Protect Long Island Sound

Background

So many of us have spent summers enjoying Long Island Sound. Families travel from across the state to swim at Hammonasset Beach, relax at Rocky Neck State Park, or sail on its waters. The Sound is part of our heritage, and part of the natural legacy we want our kids to inherit and enjoy.

So why on earth are we still letting polluters dump raw sewage and toxic chemicals into the Sound?

To defend the Sound, Environment Connecticut is working to set real limits on pollution and help Connecticut and other states restore the Sound to health.

What's New

Too much sewage is dumped into the Sound every year, too many beaches are closed each summer, too much pollution runs off from overdevelopment upstream, and too much of the Sound’s natural habitat is being lost. That’s why we’ve seen a dead zone extending across as much as 180 square miles of the Sound during the summer.

We need to protect the Sound now. We have a chance to set tougher limits on pollution and put new resources into cleaning up the Sound and restoring its natural habitat. But to get our plan through Congress, we need our delegation to stand up and take action.

That’s why we need your help. Together, we can show our members of Congress that thousands of us support real solutions to protect Long Island Sound.
