Clean Water

Connecticut’s waterways are an integral part of the state’s culture, landscape and quality of life. Cleaning up and protecting our waterways is one of the single most important commitments we can make towards keeping Connecticut a beautiful, safe, and healthy place to live, from the communities along their banks to Long Island Sound. Our waterways have seen some improvements since the passage of the Clean Water Act and the state’s Clean Water Fund, but our leaders in Washington, DC and Hartford have decreased funding for needed improvements in sewage treatment; the Bush administration has attempted to revoke protection on small streams and wetlands; and industrial proposals like Broadwater threaten the Sound. Environment Connecticut will continue to work to protect our waterways from these threats and others.
